Como nos interesamos cada vez mas en explorar sitios remotos, decidimos tomar el curso de destrezas todo-terreno ofrecido por worldofBMW en el sur del Pais de Gales / Since we are increasingly interested in exploring remote locations we decide to take the off-road skills course offered by worldof BMW in South Wales

La compañia esta dirigida por Simon Pavey, antiguo corredor y participante multiple en el rally -Dakar, de hecho algunas de sus motos estan exhibidas en el hotel donde nos quedamos / The company is managed by Simon Pavey ex-racer and participant in the Dakar rally, in fact, two of his bikes are on display at the hotel where we stayed

 Es un curso de dos dias, bastante intensivo y bien merece la pena pues el terreno de practica es amplio (unas 1600 hectareas) con variedad de terreno y los instructores son simpaticos muy bien capacitados y dan un nivel personalizado de atencion / It is a two-day course, quite intensive and well-worth taking. The site is large (some 4000 acres) with a high variety of tracks and terrain and the instructors are personable, highly competent and provide a good level of personalised attention

El precio nos parece razonable pues por algo menos de 500 GBP proveen las motos (se puede elegir el modelo deseado sujeto a disponibilidad), combustible, dos almuerzos y una cena. Tienen un vehiculo de apoyo que lleva refrigerios para las pausas, piezas de repuesto y una moto entera de recambio / The price is reasonable since for a bit under 500 GBP, they furnish the bikes (you can choose your preferred model, contingent on availability), fuel, two lunches and one dinner. They bring a support vehicle which carries snacks for the breaks, spare parts and an entire replacement bike

Traen amplia provision de agua potable e insisten en que los participantes mantengan un nivel adecuado de hidratacion, lo cual es esencial para combatir la fatiga inadvertida / They bring an ample supply of drinking water and insist that the participants maintain a good level of hydration which is essential against creeping fatigue

Llegar al sitio requiere algo de tiempo y gasto adicional pues el sur de Gales es distante. Nosotros hemos tomado el Eurotunel el viernes por la noche, pernocatdo en el Blackhorse Inn en Detling y luego conducido hasta Swansea el sabado / Getting to the site  requires some time and additional expense since South Wales is a bit remote. We took the Eurotunnel Friday night, stayed at the Blackhorse Inn in Detling and then drove to Swansea on Saturday

Nuestro hotel es el Old Tredegar Inn en un pueblo de nombre impronunciable excepto para los galeses, se llama Cwmtwrch y estoy seguro de haberlo leido varias veces para convencerme que no hay ni una vocal sino ocho consonantes / Our hotel is the Old Tredegar Inn in a town with a name that is surely unpronounceable except for the Welsh, it is called Cwmtwrch and I have re-read it several times to convince myself there are no vowels but only eight consonants

El terreno de pruebas esta a la entrada del parque nacional de Brecon Beacons que ha sido recientemente nombrado como uno de los sitios con menor polucion de luz a nivel global / The grounds are next to the entrance to the Brecon Beacons national park which has been recently nominated as one of the global sites with the least light pollution

Luego del curso debo parar en la oficina cerca de Londres por dos dias. Como de costumbre, me alojo en el Blackhorse Inn que ofrece excelente servicio y comida (ver enlaces recomendados) y alli encuentro un grupo de propietarios de Rolls Royce Silver Ghost que estan haciendo una gira por Europa con sus automoviles de epoca. Es todo un espectaculo ver unos cuatro millones de libras esterlinas (siete automoviles)  en el estacionamiento del hotel y aprovecho para tomar un par de fotos./ After the course I must stop for two days at the office near London and, as usual, I lodge at the Blackhorse Inn which offers excellent service and food (see featured links); there I run across a group of RR Silver Ghost owners that are on a tour of Europe. It is a remarkable sight to see some four million Sterling (seven cars) parked around and I take a few pictures

Bill el gato volvio con pulgas de su excursion nocturna y lo tuvieron que echar fuera hasta que el tratamiento surtiera efecto / Bill the cat came back with fleas after his night out and had to be kept out until the anti-flea treatment took effect
