Seguimos la autopista hasta Toul y de alli por "Route Nationale" hasta Neufchateau donde debo parar para tomar combustible. Esta etapa es de 189 Km / We follow the motorway to Toul and from there the "Route Nationale" to Neufchateau where I must stop to re-fuel. We have covered 189 Km
Desde Neufchateau vamos hasta Autun pasando por Chaumont, Chatillon-sur-Seine, Semur-en-Auxois y Saulieu son 238 Km / From Neufchateau we ride to Autun passing through Chaumont, Chatillon-sur-Seine, Semur-en-Auxois y Saulieu. This segment is 238 Km long
En Autun paramos para llenar los tanques y para comer. El GS toma 12,59 litros y el GSA de Aparicio 23,82 litros. Como yo habia ya puesto 9.94 litros en Neufchateau, los consumos son de 22,53 y 23,82 litros respectivamante, o sea 5,3 y 5,6 litros/100 Km / We stop in Autun to refuel and have dinner. The GS takes 12.59 litres and Aparicio's GSA takes 23.82 since he did not refuel in Neufchateau. The consumptions are respectively 5.3 and 5.6 litres/100 Km
Llegamos a Autun a casi las 20:00 y cenamos en el restaurante "L'Auberge d'Alexandre". Terminamos saliendo de Autun cerca de las 21:10; nos quedan 250 Km y al maximo una hora de luz / We arrive in Autun at almost 20:00 and dine at "L'Auberge d'Alexandre". We end up leaving at nearly 21:10; we still need to cover 250 Km and have at most one hour of sunlight left
Desde Autun vamos hasta Montmarault por ruta secundaria y alli tomamos la autovia que pasando por Clermont-Ferrand, nos lleva hasta Issoire. En Issoire volvemos a llenar los tanques y el calculo del consumo especifico nos da 5,7 litros/100 Km. Finalmente llegamos al "ACE Hotel" cerca de las 00:45. El sitio no es de lujo pero tiene estacionamiento cerrado y es limpio asi que por 65 EUR por el cuarto doble con desayuno no nos podemos quejar / From Autun we ride to Montmarault by back road and there we take the motorway that takes us through Clermont-Ferrrand to Issoire. We refuel again in Issoire and calculate a spcific consumption of 5.7 litres/ 100 Km. Finally we arrive at the "ACE Hotel" at nearly 00:45. It is not a luxury hotel but it has fenced parking and it is clean, so at 65 EUR for the double room together with breakfast, we can't complain

Pasamos por Saint Flour y paramos para almorzar a la salida de Chaudes-Aigues en un restaurante llamado "Le Moulin des Templiers". Las porciones son abundantes y quedamos satisfechos con la carne de Aubrac el aligote de patatas y queso local y Aparicio estuvo bien impresionado con el servicio de los quesos locales / We ride through Saint Flour and stop to have lunch upon exiting Chaudes-Aigues, at a restaurant called "Le Moulin des Templier". The portions are generous and we are well satisfied with the Aubrac beef, the aligote of potatoes and local cheese and the regional cheeses, Aparicio is impressed with the size and quality of the cheese board
Salimos de Chaudes-Aigues y paramos un momento en Espalion para ver el castillo de Calmont d'Olt. Hay que parar en un estacionamiento y subir los ultimos 300 m a pie. El castillo esta en ruinas y cobran una entrada cara asi que nos contentamos con ver desde afuera y aprovechar la caminata para descansar de la conduccion / We leave from Chaudes-Aigues and stop for a moment in Espalion to see the castle of Calmont d'Olt. We must leave the bikes at the parking lot and walk uphill the last 300 m. The castle is rather dilapidated and the entrance fee is expensive so we just look from the outside and profit from the walk to relax from riding
Seguimos hasta Albi donde llenamos los tanques y tomamos un helado para descansar, luego tomamos la autovia hasta Toulouse y de alli hacia los Pirineos / We reach Albi where we refill the tanks and relax a bit with an ice cream, then take the motorway to Toulouse and from there towards the Pyrinees
Encontramos alojamiento en un sitio llamado "Chateau de Camurac" y el dueño nos recomienda llegar pasando por el Col de Marmare. Nos cuesta algo de trabajo encontrar la ruta correcta que termina siendo una via de montaña estrecha y sin barrera; buena practica de conduccion defensiva / We find lodging at a place called "Chateau de Camurac" and the owner recommends to take the route passing through the Col de Marmare. It takes some effort to find the right way which ends up being a one-laner without barrier; good practice of defensive riding
El tramo entre Col de Marmare y Camurac lo recorremos practicamente de noche cerrada, ademas hoy hemos llenado los tanques solo una vez y estoy bajo de combustible y para empeorar no hay como encontrar un restaurante a esta hora / We cover the stretch between Col de Marmare and Camurac in the darkness. To complicate matters, we have refuelled only once today and I am low on fuel; worse, there's not a restaurant to be found in the vicinity
Los dueños del hotel son una simpatica pareja holandesa, nos reciben bien y preparan algo para comer. La unica preocupacion que me queda es donde encontrar gasolina por la mañana / The owners of the hotel are a nice Dutch couple; the give us a warm welcome and prepare for us something to eat. My only remaining concern is where to find fuel tomorrow morning

Hoy tenemos otro dia largo ya que hay que ir hasta Reus a buscar a Elizabeth y de alli hasta Alcañiz donde hemos reservado para quedarnos en el Parador / Another long day in the making; we have to ride to Reus to pick up Elizabeth and from there to Alcañiz where we have reserved to stay in the Parador
El dueño del hotel nos dice que hay gasolina en Pas de la Casa que queda a unos 45 Km (en realidad son 51 Km); el indicador me dice que me quedan unos 85 Km en el tanque, asi que salimos hacia la frontera con Andorra / The hotel owner tells us that there's fuel at Pas de la Casa which lies at a distance of about 45 Km (in actuality it is 51 Km) and the trip computer displays 85 Km with the remaining fuel, so we leave for the border with Andorra
Pasamos por Ax-les-Thermes y subimos hacia Pas de la Casa. Cerca de Andorra hay mucho trafico y hay que prestar atencion. Finalmente llegamos a una estacion de servicio donde llenamos los tanques, aceptan solo contante y no dan recibo asi que perdemos un poco el seguimiento del consumo / We pass through Ax-les-Thermes and head up to Pas de la Casa. There's a lot of traffic near the border with Andorra and we must pay careful attention to the road. Finally we reach a service station where we fill up; they take only cash and give no receipts so we los track of fuel consumption and costs
Luego de pasar la frontera hay menos trafico y la carretera esta en buenas condiciones asi que podemos disfrutar de las motos que aunque van muy cargadas maintienen su agilidad. Hacemos una breve parada en la cima y continuamos hacia Andorra La Vella / After crossing the border there's less traffic and the road is in good condition so we are able to enjoy the motorcycles which in spite of being quite loaded, maintain their agility. We make a short stop at the summit and continue towards Andorra La Vella
Cruzamos la frontera y entramos en Catalunya al rato paramos en La Seu D'Urgell y damos una vuelta buscando donde almorzar; encontramos un buen restaurante llamado Cal Teo / We cross the border into Catalunya and stop in La Seu D'Urgell where we look for a place to have lunch; we end up finding a good local restaurant called Cal Teo
Luego de almorzar seguimos hacia Reus pasando por Coll de Nargo y Artesa de Segre donde debiamos haber seguido directamente hacia Tarrega pero tomamos la direccion equivocada y terminamos pasando por Balaguer antes de retomar la via hacia Tarrega pasando por Bellcaire D'Urgell / After lunch we continue towards Reus and the road takes us through Coll de Nargo and Artesa de Segre, from where we should have continued straight to Tarrega but we take the wrong road and end up near Balaguer before finally re-taking the road to Tarrega through Bellcaire D'Urgell
Desde Tarrega bajamos por la C14 hasta el Aeropuerto de Reus donde recogemos a Elizabeth. Salimos hacia el centro de la ciudad y casi tenemos un accidente con un conductor agresivo. Hay que tener cuidado en España pues los conductores sufren de machismo cronico y tienen una opinion exageradamente alta de si mismos / From Tarrega we follow the C14 to the Reus airport where we pick Elizabeth up. We then head towards the centre of town and nearly have an accident with an aggressive driver. It is necessary to be extra careful in Spain because drivers in general suffer from chronic macho syndrome and have an excessively high opinion of themselves and their driving prowess
Llenamos los tanques en la estacion CEPSA de la avenida Tarragona y buscamos donde comer algo y descansar un poco. Paramos en el Restaurante Vill-Rus y luego re-tomamos la ruta hacia Alcañiz / We refuel at the CEPSA service station in avenida Tarragona and search for a place where to eat something and rest a bit. We stop at the Vill-Rus restaurant and later re-take the route towards Alcañiz

Seguimos la N 420 hacia Alcañiz y finalmente, luego de una breve parada de descanso en la ruta, llegamos al Parador de Alcañiz ya al final de la tarde. El parador esta bien situado y es agradable. Cenamos copiosamente en el restaurante del parador y nos vamos a dormir / We follow the N 420 towards Alcañz and finally, after a short rest stop along the route, we arrive at the Parador de Alcañiz at the end of the day. The parador is well situated and quite nice. We dine copiously at the parador's restaurant and afterwards go to sleep

Alcañiz es un pueblo agradable y pienso que volveremos; hace calor pero la humedad es muy baja asi que es tolerable sin problemas. Durante uno de nuestros paseos al centro, entablamos conversacion con un señor de 86 años de edad a quien luego nos referimos como "El Viejo de Alcañiz"; el hombre es sabio y nos aconseja recordar cuales son las verdaderas prioridades de la vida. Esperamos que siga en buena salud / Alcañiz is a nice town and I think we will come back someday; it is hot but humidity is very low so it is tolerable without problem. During one of our excursions to the centre of town, we converse with an 86 year old gentleman to whom we refer later as "The Old Man of Alcañiz"; he is a wise man and reminds us to keep in focus the real priorities of life. We hope he is still doing well

Tomamos la N 211, hacemos una breve parada para llenar el tanque de la GS y luego paramos en Alcorisa para comprar jamon y lomo embuchado que le llevaremos a Carlos Montes como regalo / We follow the N 211, stop briefly to fill up the GS and then stop again in Alcorisa to purchase cured ham and tenderloin which we will bring as a gift to Carlos Montes

Al pasar Montalban tomamos la N 420 en direccion a Teruel y hacemos una breve parada fuera de carretera en San Just donde hay un conjunto de molinos de viento generadores / Past Montalban we take the N 420 towards Teruel and make a short off-road stop in San Just where there's a large wind farm

Continuamos hasta Teruel siguiendo la N 420 y pasando por Mezquita de Jarque y Alfambra. En Teruel almorzamos en el Parador; me gustaron mas el servicio y la calidad en el Parador de Alcañiz / We continue towards Teruel following the N 420 and passing through towns such as Mezquita de Jarque and Alfambra. In Teruel, we have lunch at the Parador; I was better impressed with the quality and service at the Parador de Alcañiz

Saliendo de Teruel tomamos la N 330 en direccion a Utiel. Pasamos por cerca de Ademuz, Pedro Izquierdo, Landete, y Talayuelas. Hacemos una breve parada de descanso entre Talayuelas y Sinarcas / Upon leaving Teruel, we follow the N 330 tpwards Utiel. We pass through or near Ademuz, Pedro Izquierdo, Landete, and Talayuelas. Desde Utiel seguimos por la N 330, pasando por Requena, Cofrentes, Jarafuel, y Ayora donde paramos para comer algo y tomar un helado en el bar Manhattan, regentado por una simpatica pareja inglesa. Veo con algo de decepcion en la internet que la propiedad esta a la venta e imagino que el negocio no ha sido rentable / From Utiel we continue along the N 330 passing through Requena, Cofrentes, Jarafuel, and Ayora where we stop again to eat a snac and have an ice cream at the bar Manhattan which is run by a nice British couple. I see now with some disappoitment that the property is for sale and assume that the business could not stay afloat
Desde Ayora seguimos hasta Almansa. Entre Teruel y Almansa hemos recorrido 208 Km / From Ayora we continue to Almansa. Between Teruel and Almansa we have covered 208 Km
Ha caido la noche y no hay buenas opciones para albergarnos, asi que decidimos continuar hasta Alicante y tomamos la A31; paramos brevemente en una estacion de servicio cerca de Monforte del Cid para preguntar direcciones pero igualmente nos equivocamos de salida y terminamos en Elche donde paramos para llenar los tanques y reorientarnos. Son las 22:30 y llevamos casi doce horas de viaje / It has gotten dark by now and there are no good options to stop overnight so we decide to take the A31 to Alicante; we stop briefly to ask for directions near Monforte del Cid but all the same take the wrong exit and end up in Elche where we stop again to fill up and re-orient ourselves. It is 22:30 and we have been on the road for nearly twelve hours
Desde Elche llamamos al Catire Montes quien nos ayuda con direcciones y salimos hacia su casa en Albufereta pero nuevamente nos perdemos y terminamos en la via hacia Villajoyosa. Finalmente damos vuelta y al llegar a Sant Joan d'Alacant reconozco las calles y luego de un recorrido algo tortuoso llegamos a casa de Montes / From Elche we call Catire Montes who helps us with directions and we head towards his house in Albufereta but we get los again and end up in the road to Villajoyosa. Finally we turn around and after a rather convoluted ride we arrive at Montes' house
Nos alojamos en el apartamento de Jose Vidal quien nos lo ha prestado gentilmente y luego de estacionar las motos en el garage del edificio nos vamos a dormir. Pasamos varios dias de descanso en la zona. Hace much calor con alta humedad y ademas hay que dejar descansar la cadera de Elizabeth que le molesta despues del recorrido de 500Km del dia 16 / We spend a few days resting in the area. It is very hot with high humidity and besides, we must allow Elizabeth's hip to rest because it has been bothering her after the 500Km ride of the 16th
Nos divertimos con la coleccion de objetos antiguos del Catire Montes / We amuse ourselves with Catire Montes' collection of odd antiques
Aparicio se va a visitar varios amigos en la region y Elizabeth y yo nos reunimos con el y la familia de uno de sus amigos en Javea el dia 19 / Aparicio spends time visiting with friends in the area and Elizabeth and I meet him together with one of his friends' family in Javea on the 19th
El dia 20 nos vamos al restaurante "Mi Casa" donde se come la verdadera paella cocida con fuego de sarmientos. Pedimos la de conejo y serranas que es la mas tradicional / On the 20th we visit the restaurant "Mi Casa" where they serve the authentic paella cooked on a fire of dry grapevines. We order the one with rabbit and snails which is the more traditional one

Elizabeth regresa hoy por avion a Luxemburgo; la llevamos hasta el aeropuerto y luego empacamos y limpiamos el apartamento de Jose Vidal. Almorzamos en el Asador Gallego y terminamos saliendo cerca de las 18:00 cuando ha bajado un poco el sol. Vamos hacia el norte sin saber exactamente donde nos vamos a quedar / Elizabeth flies back to Luxembourg today and we take her to the airport and afterwards pack up and clean Jose Vidal's apartment. We have lunch at the Asador Gallego and end up leaving towards 18:00 after the sun has gone down a bit. We head north without knowing exactly where we will stop
Nos vamos por la A31 y paramos en La Gineta para llenar los tanques; le damos de comer a una gata callejera que nos agradece el gesto de caridad / We follow the A31 and stop at La Gineta to refuel; we give some food to a stray cat who seems thankful for the little gesture

De la lista de sitios potenciales, elegimos llamar a un hotel llamado "El Romeral" que esta en Montagudo de Las Salinas; tienen disponibilidad y reservamos dos habitaciones luego salimos hacia alla por la N 320 pasando por Tarazona de la Mancha, Motilla del Palancar, y Almodovar del Pinar / From our list of potential places we choose to call one called "El Romeral" which is in Monteagudo de las Salinas; they have vacancies and we reserve two rooms, then head there on the N 320 passing through Tarazona de la Mancha, Motilla del Palancar, and Almodovar del Pinar
La noche es oscura y cuando llegamos a Monteagudo de las Salinas tenemos alguna dificultad para encontrar el hotel pues esta ligeramente fuera del pueblo. Finalmente llegamos, nos duchamos y luego el dueño nos prepara algo de comer / The night is dark and when we arrive in Monteagudo de las Salinas, we have some difficulties to find the hotel because it is actually a bit outside of town. Finally we arrive, take a shower and the owner prepares something for dinner
