El paseo a Escocia - segundo dia/ Ride to Scotland - second day

17 de agosto. Nos levantamos como a las 09:00 hora local y encontramos una zona detras del hotel donde podremos trabajar, asi que llevamos la R45 empujada hasta alli y nos preparamos para hacer una inspeccion detallada./ 17 August. We get up around 09:00 local time and find a quiet area behind the hotel where we will be able to work, so we push the R45 there and prepare to conduct a detailed inspection.

Desmontamos la tapa delantera y sacamos las bujias, luego le damos vuelta al motor manualmente; inmediatamente parecen confirmadas mis sospechas pues el ruido parece provenir de la zona donde se acoplan el motor de arranque y la corona del volante del motor. Procedemos a un desarmado ulterior, sacando el tanque, bateria, filtro de aire y cubierta superior del motor y confirmamos que el ruido viene del piñon del motor de arranque que esporadicamente se queda engranado a la corona. No podemos hacer mas pues no tenemos herramientas para sacar el motor de arranque pero estamos practicamente convencidos de poder proseguir a riesgo minimo/ We pull the front cover and spark plugs off, then turn the engine by hand; immediately my suspicions appear confirmed since the noise seems to come from the area where the starter motor and flywheel crown engage. We proceed to further remove the tank, battery, air filter and upper engine cover and confirm that the noise indeed comes form the starter motor pinion which appears to sporadcally remain engaged to the crown. We cannot do much more because we do not have the tools to remove the starter motor but we are practically convinced of being able to proceed with minimal risk.

Rearmamos la moto y nos vamos hacia Gravesend por rutas secundarias. Hay mucho trafico y nos toma bastante tiempo. Teniamos la intencion the cruzar el Tamesis entre Gravesend y Tilbury, pero nos informan que el ferry no existe y que nuestras opciones son: 1- darle la vuelta a Londres por el oeste, 2.- Pasar por el centro de Londres, 3.- Tomar la M25 y pasar por el tunel de Dartford. Como la R45 tiene poca potencia y ademas tiene el problema del motor de arranque, queriamos evitar las autopistas pero entre las tres opciones, la menos mala es la de pasar por Dartford,  asi que nos dirigimos hacia alla por la M25/ We reassemble the bike and head towards Gravesend by secondary road. There is a lot of traffic and we take along time to get there. We intended to cross the Thames from Gravesend to Tilbury but are informed that the ferry is no longer in service and that our only options are: 1.- Go around London on the west side, 2.- Go thorugh the centre of London, 3.- Take the M25 mototrway and go through the Dartford tunnel. Since the R45 has little power and additionally has the prblem with the starter motor, we wanted to avoid motorways but of the three options, the least bad one is to take the Dartford tunnel so we head therethrough the M25.

Nuevamente mucho trafico pero logramos pasar el tunel con exito y nos dirigimos por la M11 hasta Cambridge y de alli por la A1 hasta Peterborough, luego por la A15 hacia Lincoln. A Lincoln llegamos ya tarde y por supuesto sin reservacion de hotel asi que hacemos varios intentos antes de encontrar una habitacion en el propio centro de la ciudad; es un poco mas cara, pero tienen un aparcamiento vigilado y logro negociar con la recepcionista para que nos preparen sandwiches pues la cocina ya esta cerrada desda hace varias horas. En el Reino Unido rural o semi-rural, los restaurantes sirven solo hasta las 20:00 o en algunos casos las 21:00. Mañana encotraremos como desmontar el motor de arranque y en el peor de los casos irnos usando solo la patada de arranque/ Again, lots of traffic but we manage to cross successfully through the tunnel and then head to Cambridge by the M11, from there to Peterborough throgh the A1 and then through the A15 to Lincoln. We arrive quite late in Lincoln and, of course, without a hotel reservation. After several attempts, we manage to find a room in the centre of Lincoln; it is a bit more expensive but tey have closed parking and I manage to negotiate for them to make sandwiches for us since the kitchen has stopped serving a while ago. In the rural and semi-rural parts of the United Kingdom, restaurants serve only until 20:00 or in some cases 21:00. Tomorrow we will find how to remove the starter motor and in the worst of cases we will proceed by using only the kick-starter.
