18 de agosto. Nos levantamos, desayunamos en el hotel y damos un breve paseo a pie por las inmediaciones. Como el hotel esta justo frente a la catedral, tenemos oportunidad de apreciar las vistas de esta pintoresca ciudad que en un tiempo fue colonia romana. La catedral es impresionante y data del siglo 11/ 18 August. We get up,have breakfast at the hotel and take a short stroll in the vicinity. Since the hotel is squarely in front of the cathedral, we have a good opportunity to enjoy the sights in this picturesque city which was at one time a roman colony. Unos 45 minutos mas tarde viene el mecanico hasta nosotros con el motor de arranque en la mano y nos muestra la causa del desperfecto: La horquilla de retorno del piñon se ha ensanchado con el uso y ha terminado por saltar fuera de la guia; nos dice que le ha vuelto a dar su forma original y que nos dara en breve tiempo el motor de arranque reparado. Efectivamente, vuelve unos 15 minutos mas tarde con la pieza y no nos quiere cobrar. Me quedo impresionado con la hospitalidad de esta gente y le damos una propina en agradecimiento./Some 45 minutes later comes out the technician with the starter motor in his hand and shows us the cause of the problem: The pinion's return fork has widened and jumped out of its slot; he tells us that he has brought it back to its original shape and that in a short time he will have the starter fully repaired. Indeed he comes back about 15 minutes later with the repaired unit. I am impressed with these people's hospitality and we thank him and give him a tip.
Volvemos a armar la moto, la cual ahora funciona perfectamente y salimos en busqueda de algo que comer. Son ya las 14:00 y hoy no cubriremos mucha distancia ya que tambien comienza a llover./ We reassemble the bike and search for a place to eat. It is already 14:00 and we probably will not go very far since it starts to rain.
Salimos del restaurante bajo la lluvia, llenamos los tanques y ponemos direccion hacia Kingston upon Hull; queremos pasar por el parque nacional de los Paramos del Norte de York pero no nos dara tiempo hoy y tendremos que encontrar alojamiento antes de entrar al parque./We leave from the restaurant under the rain, fill up the tanks and head towards Kingston upon Hull; we want to drive through the North York Moors National Park but we will not be able to do it today and must find lodging before the park.
Tenemos suerte pues al poco tiempo cesa de llover; cruzamos el rio Humber pasando el "Puente Humber" en Kingston y seguimos hasta Beverley donde hacemos una breve parada y decidimos continuar hacia Norton-on-Derwent. En el camino entre Beverley y Norton, encontramos un pueblo con un nombre simpatico donde tomamos algunas fotos./We're in luck since the rain stops after a short time; we cross the Humber river through the "Humber Bridge" in Kingston and continue to Beverley where we make a short stop and decide to continue towards Norton-on-Derwent. Between Beverley and Norton, we find a small town with a rather funny name where we take some pictures.
Llegamos hasta Norton-on-Derwent y no vemos mucho potencial de bienvenida asi que seguimos un poco mas hasta Malton donde paramos en la plaza principal y nos abocamos a encontrar hotel; estan todos llenos y nos quedan pocas opciones hasta que al final consigo un cuarto en el "George" que es en realidad una taberna con algunos cuartos arriba. Son gente simpatica y nos facilititan donde estacionar las motos pero no sirven comida y hay que apurarse en encontrar algo pues en esta region los resturantes paran de servir a las 20:00./ We reach Norton-on-Derwent, where we don't see a lot of potential for welcoming so we continue a bit further to Malton. There we stop at the main square and apply ourselves to finding lodging; it is difficult because they are all full and we have few options. I finally find a room at the "George" which is really a local pub with rooms above. They are a nice bunch and allow us to park the bikes inside their parking area but they do not serve food and we must rush to find a place to have dinner sinc in this region, restaurants stop serving at 20:00.
Finalmente Aparicio encuentra uno donde sirven hasta las 21:30. Como no tenemos reservacion nos informan que tendremos que esperar hasta que se ocupen primero de quienes si tenian reservacion; nos parece logico y tomamos asiento para estudiar el menu con detenimiento mientras evaluamos las cualidades de las cidras y cervezas locales./Finally, Aparicio finds one where they serve until 21:30. Since we have not reserved, they inform us that we will have to wait our turn until they have served all who had made a reservation; we think it is logical and sit at the table to study the menu in detail while checking out the local ciders and ales.
La espera vale la pena pues la comida y el servicio son excelentes; nos despedimos cordialmente y le prometo a las dueñas que publicare su menu y enlace internet. Volvemos al George pero ya no tenemos ni la energia ni la voluntad para ir al bar y nos vamos directamente a dormir./The wait was worth it because the food and service are excellent; we part ways cordially and I promise the owners to publish their menu and link. We return to the George but no longer have the energy nor willpower to go to the bar and instead go straight to sleep.
Regresamos al hotel y preguntamos donde se pueden comprar herramientas; nos recomiendan ir a Halfords y nos dan la direccion. Salimos del hotel y encontramos la tienda sin mucho problema; veo que tienen un centro de servicio. Los saludo, les explico nuestra situacion y pregunto si podriamos desmontar el motor de arranque y tal vez ellos nos pudieran ayudar a por lo menos inmobilizar el piñon para que no haga mas contacto con la corona. Son gente amable y nos dicen que podemos trabajar en el estacionamiento detras de ellos y que haran lo que puedan para ayudarnos. Con esto, ponemos manos a la obra y en el propio Halfords encuentro las herramientas faltantes que nos permiten desmontar el motor de arranque; una llave plana, cerrada de 13mm para el lado izquierdo y un dado profundo, tambien de 13mm para el lado derecho./We return to the hotel and ask them where we can buy tools; they recommend we go to Halfords and provide the address. We leave the hotel and find the store without much difficulty; I notice they have a service centre. I say hallo and ask them if we could remove the starter and maybe they could help us at least immobilize the pinion to stop it from engaging against the crown. They are nice people and tell us that we can work in the parking area behind the shop and that they will do what they can to help us. With this, we apply ourselves to the job. In the Halfords store I find the tools we were missing to remove the starter; a closed-end flat 13mm wrench for the left side and a deep 13mm socket for the right side.
